BIOGRAFIA

Olivier Mosset è nato nel 1944 a Berna (CH) , dal 1977 vive e lavora a Tucson (Arizona-USA) e New York.

RITRATTO

Dal 1962 al 1977 Mosset è vissuto a Parigi dove nel 1967 si è associato a Daniel Buren,Niele Toroni e Michel Parmentier .
Essi hanno creato un movimento(che durò solo un anno), rimasto comunque senza una denominazione precisa, e che , tra le sue principali istanze , promuoveva una “riduzione della pittura al grado zero” e la rottura con il sistema del mercato dell’arte tradizionale,
andando contro l’elitarietà dell’opera d’arte e sviluppando un’arte di tipo seriale ma con
un modo di procedere totalmente manuale.
Mosset ha cosi prodotto dal 1966 al 1974 circa duecento dipinti quadrati di 1 x 1 m dipingendo nel centro una piccola O nera su fondo bianco .
Dopo una serie di dipinti a bande verticali e oblique è giunto progressivamente al dipinto
monocromo.
Nel 1977 si trasferisce a New York . Per la Biennale di Parigi prepara una serie di dipinti a
parete coperti da una pellicola di colore rosso dove traspaiono le tracce di strisce a matita ma queste opere passano inosservate perché confuse con i muri .
Nel 1978 incontra Marcia Hafif con la quale fonda un gruppo d’artisti: nascono le mostre
New abstraction(1983) e Radical painting (1984).
Nel 1986 partecipa a Villa Arson a Nizza alla mostra Tableaux Abstraits e nello stesso
anno per la prima volta delle opere recanti un titolo.
Sebbene Mosset non ha mai fatto parte del gruppo “ Neo –Geo” mantiene comunque solide
relazioni con alcuni di questi artisti: Peter Halley,Helmuth Federle e John Armleder .
Nel 1990 Mosset rappresenta la Svizzera alla Biennale di Venezia .
In numerose occasioni Mosset ha collaborato con altri artisti , firmando anche opere in comune come con Andy Warhol e Steven Parrino alla galleria Pierre Huber a Ginevra nel 1990 ; con John Armleder invitato a dipingere una rampa per skateboard alla Biennale di Lione nel 1993; e con Cady Noland al Migros Museo d’arte contemporanea di Zurigo nel
1999.
Mosset ha prodotto anche diversi lavori in-situ e sculture per l’esterno come a Neuchâtel,
Bienne e per lo stadio di St. Gallo .
Nel 1994 un’installazione fatta con cartoni , in grandezza naturale, al Museo di Belle Arti di Sion in Vallese , rimandava alle forma delle barriere anticarro durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale e che , familiarmente, venivano denominate “ Toblerones”.
Sono del 2003 le retrospettive del suo lavoro al Museo di Belle Arti di Losanna e al Museo
d’Arte di St.Gallo.
